Key Phases of Injury Rehabilitation.
- Acute/Initial Phase:
- Focus: Reduce pain, swelling and inflammation.
- Activities: Rest, ice, compression, elevation (RICE), gentle range of movement exercises, and protection of the injured area.
- Subacute/Repair Phase
- Focus: Promote tissue healing, restore range of motion, and prevent stiffness.
- Activities: Gradually introduce mobility exercises, gentle strengthening, and controlled activities.
- Rehabilitation/Progression Phase
- Focus: Build strength, endurance and functional capacity.
- Activities: Progressive resistance exercises, balance training and functional movement patterns.
- Return to Activity/Performance Phase
- Focus: Prepare for return to sport, work or daily activities.
- Activities: Sport-specific drills, agility, plyometrics and phycological readiness assessments.
